Coney Island Engagement Session

Coney Island is perhaps one of the most enchanting but one of the most challenging spots to shoot engagement portraits – especially on a summer weekend. But the crowds and pandemonium didn’t deter us from getting some truly amazing shots.  What makes engagement shoots in Coney Island special is that they feel more like an evening out rather than a photo shoot – this was certainly the case with Brittainy and Lawrence.  The couple, who both grew up in New York City, will be getting married later this week and I’m absolutely thrilled to document their wedding.

Bear Mountain Wedding Preview

What an absolute joy shooting Jessica and Kevin’s wedding up in Bear Mountain!  Bear Mountain Inn is a wonderful place to have a wedding – especially if you rent the Carousel room.  Lighting is certainly a challenge though because the ceilings are high and dark – thus using bounce flash was certainly a “no go.”   We managed to overcome this hurdle with a few tricks up our sleeve and come up with some dramatic images.

Preview: Engagement Shoot in Coney Island

Coney Island is a true NYC landmark but an engagement portrait session at the historic amusement park during one of the busiest weekends can be quite a challenge.  A great assistant, remote lighting, a little patience (especially with the would-be photo-bombers), and most importantly having fun, are key!

Janet and Wes: New York City Destination Wedding

This is a very special couple.  Wes and Janet are high school sweethearts and they’ve been dating for more than thirteen years before finally making the big jump.  The spritely couple from Florida decided to have their wedding here in the Big Apple.  Their wedding day started with getting ready at the beautiful Eventi Hotel in midtown.  Both Janet and Wes left it in our hands to be able to exchange letters and wedding gifts – but without seeing each other before the ceremony.  We had our work cut out to set this up and document the beautiful moments that unfolded.

The ceremony took place on the roof of the Midtown Loft and Terrace which offers amazing views of the city – especially the Empire State Building. Following the ceremony, we had some time to take a few memorable portraits at some key New York City landmarks such as the Flat Iron building and Grand Central Station before heading out to Flushing, Queens for the reception at Mulan Restaurant.

I was so fortunate to have world renown documentary film maker and photographer as well as ICP instructor Andre Lambertson to second shoot some amazing moments.  Also, it was a treat to try an amazing cake made by my friend and master cake maker Judy Lai at Silk Cakes.

Congratulations, Wes and Janet and thank you so much for having me document your wedding day!
