Mohonk Mountain House Wedding: Daphne and Gee

Daphne and Gee’s wedding day was filled with so much emotion and joy.  Their family flew in from as far as Singapore and Malaysia to be with them on their most special day.  The day started out in Daphne’s quintessential New York City apartment with Daphne and her bridesmaids getting ready while Skyping on an iPad with her family and friends in the Far East who were not able to be with her.  The day progressed with a Chinese wedding day tradition in which the groom had to bribe and charm his way through the bridesmaids to get to the bride for a first look.   After a few snaps at Central Park we hopped into a limo and made our way to the beautiful Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York. There were some new experiences for me along the way, this was the first wedding that involved me getting on a row boat with my camera just to get close enough to get the shot I wanted.

Many thanks to Stephen Tang for great assisting.

The Inn at New Hyde Park Wedding: A Second Shooter’s Perspective

Although I haven’t been second shooting much these days I cherish every opportunity I can get as a second shooter because it’s a great opportunity for me to work on my creative and photojournalism skills.  Thanks to Ben and Erin Chrisman, I’ve been rethinking everything about how I shoot – my goal was to get closer and slow things down a bit – which are not the easiest things to do at a wedding.  Second shooting for my friend William Chang at Megan and Manuel’s wedding at The Inn at New Hyde Park was confirmation that getting close is not just about spatial distance but also about developing a deeper emotional connection with the people whom I’m photographing. With that mindset I believe I was able to capture candid moments that are more immersive and more emotional – something I would have never been able to do had I been standing at a distance with a telephoto lens.

Union Square Engagement Session: Jessica and Larry

We were blessed with beautiful weather for Jessica and Larry’s engagement shoot this past weekend – not a cloud in the sky which provided us with some epic lighting opportunities during the day portion of our engagement shoot but we conjured up our own lighting magic when the sun went down.  I am so thrilled to be part of Jessica’s and Larry’s most special day come this autumn.  You guys look gorgeous!

Huge thanks to Stephen Tang for the great assisting.

New York City Engagement Shoot: Carly and Robert

I was thrilled to shoot my first engagement session of the year with Carly and Robert – a fantastic time spent with an absolutely fantastic couple.  We hit a variety of places in midtown which included a stop at the MoMA.

Many thanks to my good friend and great photographer Kevin Ferguson for assisting!

Thank you Fearless for another award!

I am truly thrilled and honored to have received another Fearless Award (Collection 20).  This is a very big deal given that Fearless is one of the toughest international competitions for wedding photography.  There are about 10,000 image submissions during each Fearless Collection, of which, only 200-300 images are selected.  A big “Thank you” to Huy and the Fearless curator staff!
