Bear Mountain Inn Wedding: Jessica + Kevin

Both Jessica and Kevin live in Colorado but decided to have their wedding in New York at Bear Mountain Inn.  This intimate sized wedding was complete with a vintage style carousel that was sure to create an enchanting wedding night.  As beautiful as the carousel pavilion is, the venue itself was fraught with tall dark ceilings which is fine during the day but is always a challenge for most photographers during the evening.  Direct flash is almost never an option for me and neither was several strategically placed studio lights as it was critical for me to capture the almost theatrical mood as Jessica and Kevin not only remembered it but how they felt it.  I’m a firm believer in lighting that helps preserve the mood but doesn’t set the mood – thus a continuous and dynamic light source was in order.  Helping me with the light stick (and second shoot) that night was Stephen Tang, who had great instinct of knowing exactly where to be relative to where I was positioned.  It was indeed a great pleasure to document both Jessica and Kevin’s special day.  Jessica is a speech pathologist who works with kids and Kevin is a gifted musician who is now serving in the prestigious United States Air Force Band – look out for Kevin to perform at the next Presidential Inauguration.

Janet and Wes: New York City Destination Wedding

This is a very special couple.  Wes and Janet are high school sweethearts and they’ve been dating for more than thirteen years before finally making the big jump.  The spritely couple from Florida decided to have their wedding here in the Big Apple.  Their wedding day started with getting ready at the beautiful Eventi Hotel in midtown.  Both Janet and Wes left it in our hands to be able to exchange letters and wedding gifts – but without seeing each other before the ceremony.  We had our work cut out to set this up and document the beautiful moments that unfolded.

The ceremony took place on the roof of the Midtown Loft and Terrace which offers amazing views of the city – especially the Empire State Building. Following the ceremony, we had some time to take a few memorable portraits at some key New York City landmarks such as the Flat Iron building and Grand Central Station before heading out to Flushing, Queens for the reception at Mulan Restaurant.

I was so fortunate to have world renown documentary film maker and photographer as well as ICP instructor Andre Lambertson to second shoot some amazing moments.  Also, it was a treat to try an amazing cake made by my friend and master cake maker Judy Lai at Silk Cakes.

Congratulations, Wes and Janet and thank you so much for having me document your wedding day!

Allison and Jahaziel Wedding at The Eagle’s Nest

It almost seems as if everyday in June was met with torrential downpours but what a beautiful day it turned out to be for both Allison and Jahaziel.  I had so much fun documenting this soft-spoken couple’s wedding which was filled with so much emotion and festivities.  The music and dancing were off-the-charts fun – yes, even I was a bit tempted to strut some moves but I did manage to keep my composure.

Congratulations!

David and Anita: Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman Wedding

Congratulations David and Anita!  A wedding and a week of vacation in Grand Cayman is definitely something I wish I could do more often.  What a joy it was meeting their friends and family and taking part in the activities.  There was also a spooky encounter of the paranormal kind in one of our condo rooms – but I won’t delve too much into that. I guess I could describe Anita and David’s wedding as nothing but supernatural in that everything went so amazingly well – the notoriously fickle tropical weather held up during the ceremony and reception when the forecast called for rain and we were also treated to a free fireworks show during the reception.

STONE MILL NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN WEDDING

There’s a very special place in my heart for the New York Botanical Garden Stone Mill – this is after all where my wife and I decided to get married in September of 2007. J and YJ are good friends of mine and I was honored they asked me to photograph their special day and having it at the Stone Mill made it extra special.

Many thanks to Yvan Chu for second shooting!
